Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Patient rights: 

  • Patients  have a right to access timely and high-quality care from your GP.
  • Patients have a right to a safe, secure and supportive healthcare environment.
  • Patients have a right to a general practice environment that respects your healthcare needs.
  • Patients have a right to be included in decisions and choices about your care.

  • Patients have a right to open, two-way communication with your GP about your healthcare.
  • Patients have a right to privacy and confidentiality of your personal information.
  • Patients have a right to comment on your care and have your concerns addressed.

 

Patient responsibilities

  • To give at least 2 hours notice of cancellation prior to your appointment booked otherwise a $40 fee will be charged. Advise your practice of any changes to your contact details.
  • Understand you may need to wait for attention if your GP is attending to other patients.
  • Provide your GP with information that affects your health.
  • Ensuring your Health care and pension cards are current and presented to reception at the time of your consultation if you wish to be bulk billed
  • Let your GP know about any changes in your medical condition.
  • Treat practice staff and other patients in a fair and polite manner. Brunswick Medical Group has a Zero Tolerance policy to abusive behaviour. 
  • Be involved and interested in your care planning. Following up on test results and other investigations as ordered by your doctor
  • Ask your GP questions or for clearer explanations if you don’t understand.
  • Let your GP know about your needs. Be as open and honest about your issues as you can.
